Missions
FCC is a “hands on” mission minded congregation. As Christ has loved us, we seek to love the world in Christ’s name. The Missions Ministry likes to say that FCC doesn't wait to "give something back" to the community as much as we are on the "pay as you go" plan.
Here are some of our ongoing mission efforts:
The FCC Food Pantry provides emergency food to familes in need. Church workers volunteer on Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to noon and supply recipients with boxed and canned staple foods as well as meat, cheese, and snacks. Information on other emergency services is available to those needing it as well. Supporting missionaries and children in Mexico is goal of the Mexican Children's Mission. Ministry efforts center around three areas: helping families with special needs, support of the regional Special School, and providing Christian fellowship and support to missionaries working in Mexico. Over a dozen FCC members have journeyed to Mexico to be part of this ministry. In addition, monetary support and school supplies have been furnished by the church. Each month FCC cooks, delivers, and serves the evening meal for Our House, a homeless shelter in downtown Little Rock. The shelter serves both individuals and families, and about 40-50 people enjoy the home-cooked meal each time. FCC has participated in being a meal provider for Our House for 15 years. Christian Women's Fellowship, or CWF, is the gathering of FCC women to fellowship, study, and work on special projects. Besides enjoying a monthly meal and meeting, each group donates regularly to mission efforts and do hands-on projects as well. Some projects include collecting baby clothes and blankets for newborns at UAMS, taking toiletries to the Union Rescue Mission, collecting food can labels to help Woodhaven home for children with disabilities, and selecting a church member as Quarterly Super Volunteer.
The Chrisitian Men's Fellowship, CMF, has combined meetings with CWF and also sponsors church work days, special projects, and retreats. The Share a Bear project supports the Sherwood Police Department. Church members donate toy bears and other stuffed animals, and CWF members bag and carry them to the police department. The officers use the toys to comfort or interact with children at accident scenes or other stressful situations.
Other Missions Projects
FCC supports a variety of other projects, some of which are listed below:
VA Hospital Magazines FCC collects magazines for donation to the Veterans Hospitals in Little Rock and North Little Rock. These magazines are placed in waiting rooms so individuals will have reading materials as they wait on family and friends.
Cookies and Cards
Each year the Acolytes make cookies and collect Christmas cards for local correction facilities. The cookies are used by the facilites at their Christmas parties, and the donated cards are used by the prisoners to write their friends and families.
Heifer Project International
FCC supports the work of Heifer Project International, who places animals with hungry families around the world. These animals help the families feed themselves and become self-reliant. During the recent Lent season, the congregation responded to a "Quarters Drive" such that a sheep, goat, and bees were able to be donated to families in underdeveloped countries.
Support of Community Groups
FCC supports local groups by providing space for meetings and activities. Our fellowship hall and Chalice Hall are regularly in use by community groups such as AA, scouts, and Upward Bound basketball.
